Swan Lake at Teatro Costanzi
Rome Opera’s 2026/27 season brings Swan Lake to Teatro Costanzi from 17 to 31 December 2026. The official calendar includes performances on 24 December at 11:00 and 31 December at 18:00, as well as several evening and matinee dates between them. Christmas music at the Auditorium
The Auditorium Parco della Musica has begun publishing its December calendar. A confirmed festive highlight is Joss Stone’s Merry Christmas, Love with live orchestra on 5 December 2026. More seasonal concerts may be added: use the official Auditorium calendar for times, tickets and any programme changes.
Christmas traditions and places to see
Piazza Navona, Via del Corso, the Spanish Steps and St Peter’s Square are classic festive stops, but installations and market dates vary every year. Santa Maria Maggiore is particularly meaningful at Christmas because of its association with the relic of the Holy Crib, and it is within walking distance of Monti.

Christmas at the Vatican
St Peter’s Square and the basilica attract very large crowds during Christmas week. The Vatican publishes the Pope’s liturgical calendar and access arrangements separately; the detailed 2026 Christmas schedule was not yet available at the time of checking. Participation in papal celebrations is free, but access may require a reservation.
Use only the official Vatican page for audiences and celebrations. Allow extra time for security and never buy supposedly “official” papal-audience tickets from resellers.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dining
